BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-religious women’s human rights organisation committed to the realisation of women’s human rights, under the three parallel systems of law in Nigeria -  customary, statutory and religious laws. Established in 1996, BAOBAB evolved from a three-year research project on Women and Laws, coordinated by the international solidarity network of Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML). The wealth of data generated from the research showed the need for intervention as the manifestations of violation of women’s human rights were evident in different spheres of the Nigerian society.
